So while cuts are made in various departments we can afford to plough £24 million into Pinewood Studios? It seems that not all members were convinced of the wisdom of this move. There is mention of lack of sufficient information but it seems that we can never say “no” to the film industry.
Questions appear to be met with accusations of mistrust. However, this is the crux of the matter. We are subjected to the “Film industry is of great benefit to the island” mantra and it seems we are compelled to accept this. Were we to have more insight into the film industry perhaps the statement would be easier to accept. However, to many the sector appears to be shrouded in mystery. Questions are discouraged while to some it almosts seems as if the Manx film industry is conspicuous by the absence of visible or tangible activity. More transparency would go a long way to allaying mistrust.
